The U.S. Navy Carrier Team One designs, champions, and improves operational processes for U.S. Navy aircraft carrier maintenance. Established in 1997, Carrier Team One provides structure for long-term systemic improvement of cost, schedule, and quality performance during aircraft carrier maintenance periods. Whereas shipyard personnel must concentrate on the effective execution of individual maintenance projects, Carrier Team One is set up to focus on capturing and transferring knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned across all projects and shipyards.

APQC spoke with Kelly Souders, Program Director for Carrier Team One, about the organization’s knowledge management (KM) program and how it achieved Level 3 (3.92) maturity at the core discipline level on APQC’s KM Capability Assessment.
