APQC’s research on process frameworks uncovered that the majority of organizations tend to either conduct no process improvement efforts or conduct ad hoc efforts. However by using gap analysis or current state assessments organizations are able to systematically understand the organization’s “as is” processes and capabilities and identify and prioritize potential improvements by organizational value. Hence, process frameworks can be invaluable for organization’s gap analysis because they provide a common framework for measures and organizational capabilities.

This case study explores how Sword Group leverages APQC’s Process Classification Framework (PCF)® to conduct process-focused gap analysis to scope and prioritize performance improvement projects.
