APQC launched its Effective Change Management Practices survey to discover and help organizations learn leading practices that can strengthen their approach to change. As a part of the survey, APQC studied the effectiveness of different engagement approaches for change. Engagement refers to the tactics that organizations use to build trust, set behaviors, and link employees’ work to overall organizational goals and performance.

Organizations have a wide range of tactics at their disposal to accomplish these goals—but some engagement approaches are more effective than others. In this article, APQC draws from its research findings to highlight three change management practices that reliably move the needle for change. Along the way, we provide examples of how real world organizations carry out these approaches.
