We asked Boone County Schools’ Kim Ryles, process and performance analyst, what she finds most valuable about APQC membership.
About Boone County Schools
Boone County Schools are committed to ensuring every student is college, career and life ready. As the third largest in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the District consists of 14 elementary schools, six middle schools and four high schools. There are nearly 20,000 students, 1,200 who are English Language Learners, speaking over 50 languages in Boone County Schools. This district takes great pride in their mission of Achieving Excellence Together. With a rich history of high achievements, quality teaching and efficient operations, Boone County Schools are helping to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s world.
What tools, expertise, services, or information do you use the most?
We utilize APQC’s DMAIC Framework-Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control-to create and refine processes in instruction and operations at Boone County Schools. We also utilize a training deck that was created for us related to rapid improvement. We are using the slides to help support our project “All Means All”-instructional alignment with the district, and all schools in alignment with the district. We’ve been taking the presentation and tweaking to fit our needs.
Additionally, we use APQC’s website resources for strategic planning, and the conferences are wonderful. They help establish relationships with your peers, and just having that simple connection where you can call somebody and say “hey, I’m having a problem with this, how do you solve that in your district?” – that’s considered a resource; for us.
How does APQC membership help you work smarter, faster, and with more confidence?
Our superintendent sees a lot of value in the APQC membership. We estimate we’ve saved $1 million in past projects, supported by APQC. APQC provides the support, knowledge, and resources we need to get work done. It's a resource we can go back to for examples from other districts and companies.
